Differentiating Male and Female Lovebirds

According to my friend Earl, another friend from CARA (Care and Responsibility for Animals), it's hard to tell. But she said that if given wood or paper, the female lovebird will shred and tuck the paper under her wings. Sounds like a very female instinct even for humans: dissecting things and hoarding them.

Since we got 3 pairs of lovebirds, I asked the donor how she knows if the bird is a male or female. According to her trained eyes, the female bird is roundish (like human female, they also have hips?), the male tends to be long and slim. Look at the birds on top.

Take note that lovebirds are meant to be at least 2: one female and one male. Not two of the same gender. Otherwise, they'll die of loneliness.

But between birds and fish, I prefer fish. Between fish and dogs, I prefer dogs. I do believe keeping pets, especially for young children, make them more gentle.

By the way, for my North American friends, don't forget to watch "There be Dragons" which will open in the US on May 6.
